The fireplace is one of the showpieces of the home – on cold days it’s a place where you gather and on warmer days it’s a nice area that breaks up the flow of the living room. If there is a mantel, this is the place where you put all sorts of knickknacks. Ultimately, many of the design issues with the fireplace come from a lack of creativity, however with good paint, this will never be an issue.
When looking for a creative way to jazz up your fireplace, this article from Hometalk will provide you with some great tips to take your fireplace to the next level.
Whether you are inspired by nature or something else, getting the right paint and the unleashing your creative side will have impressive benefits.
1. Get Rid of the Boring
This particular fireplace is quite staid and boring – the planks are a neutral color which doesn’t stand out against a neutral wall. Find something that inspires you to create an amazing fireplace!
2. Find Inspiration
Many DIYers find inspiration in nature – and this fireplace is no different. Inspired by the sunrise, this fireplace will reflect the different colors that appear in this particular window every morning.
3. Use the Right Paint
For this particular project, Spit was used as it is a paint that has very bold colors yet at the same time has a level of transparency that allows the wood to reflect through. This way, the wood isn’t lost and it doesn’t look like you painted dry wall.
4. Tape Sections
Use painters tape to separate out the different sections. It’s ok to be a bit whimsical with how you tape off these areas. These taped sections will be where you want to have your colors blend.
5. Work Down the Fireplace
As you paint, work down from the ceiling to the floor. As you get to the taped sections, blend colors to provide a cohesive environment to the “mural.” This will really make everything flow together when it’s all done.
